Introduction

The "Misa de las Indias" (1992) is a composition for mixed choir, musical ensemble and singers. The ensemble is formed by piano, guitars, (Argentinian) bass drum and contrabass. The vocal soloists are one or two woman's voices and two man's voices.

The official name of the Spanish colonies was "Las Indias". In the mass I used motifs from various countries. For that reason, I called it "Misa de las Indias" ("The Mass of the Indias").

In Holland, the mass - up to this moment - has been performed more then fifty times and relayed by Dutch Nacional Radio. The work met with warm admiration. I will never forget the unforgetable reception, later, of the "Misa" in Italy, where it was song on various occasions.

The mass consists of the following parts:

I added to the mass three "interludios", which, though formally they are not parts of the mass, can (and should) be performed during the mass celebration or during a concert:

Duuation, inclusive the interludios: 35 minutes

The score

I distribute my work according to the concept of "share ware". This means:

"I think that this work soon will be a keen competitor with the Misa Criolla".

The three interludios

I added to the mass three "interludios". But the Interludios are also heard as concert pieces. For example, some pianists play Interludio 2 as an encore after a concert. A thirteen years old schoolgirl won a piano contest in Cincinatti (USA) playing Interludio 2. So I decided to publish the scores onto Internet.

Interludio 1

Divertimento Argentino

As a result of various highly successful performances of my Misa de las Indias in Italy, I was invited by an Italian string quartet to write a piece in South-American style. This became the Divertimento Argentino. I tried to combine Argentine folklore - with its pronounced guitar playing style - with the sound and tecnics of bowing instruments.

In order to give you an impression of the Divertimento, I made a sound track of the work with MIDI. As you will know: this is purely artificial music, though the sounds are taken from real musical instruments.

Moreover, as a consequence of .mp3 compression, the sound quality is hardly adequate.
